York County Register of Wills

Independently elected row officer who also serves as Clerk of the Orphans' Court. Has jurisdiction over probate of wills, grants letters testamentary and of administration, and collects inheritance taxes for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Recorder of Deeds

Independently elected row officer responsible for recording and maintaining all real estate documents in York County, as well as military discharge papers and notary bonds/commissions. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Coroner's Office

Independently elected row officer responsible for investigating deaths within York County and completing death certificates for deaths occurring under suspicious circumstances, from violence or trauma, operative deaths, unattended deaths, and others. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Board of Commissioners

The chief governing body of York County, composed of three commissioners elected at-large to four-year terms. The Board sets policy, adopts the county budget, and oversees county departments; row officers operate independently with budget allocations from the Board.

York County Prothonotary

Independently elected row officer. All civil litigation (mortgage foreclosures, personal injury, divorce, child custody, protection from abuse, license-suspension appeals) is filed with the Prothonotary, which also accepts U.S. passport applications. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Sheriff's Office

Independently elected row officer. The Sheriff is an officer of the courts responsible for serving subpoenas, providing courtroom security, transporting and securing prisoners, and issuing licenses to carry firearms. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Clerk of Courts

Independently elected row officer responsible for processing, maintaining, and recording criminal case records for the York County Court of Common Pleas, collecting court costs/fines, and licensing private detectives. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Treasurer

Independently elected row officer responsible for receiving and depositing all money payable to York County, and for selling hunting, fishing, bingo, small-games-of-chance, and dog licenses. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County Controller's Office

Independently elected row officer who supervises the fiscal affairs of York County, maintains all accounting records, opens contract bids, prepares payroll, publishes the county's annual financial reports, and administers the county retirement plan. Member of the Salary, Retirement, Prison, and Youth Development Center Boards. Elected at-large to a four-year term.

York County District Attorney's Office

Independently elected row officer serving as the chief law enforcement officer of York County, mandated by law to sign all bills of indictment and conduct all criminal prosecutions in the name of the Commonwealth. Elected at-large to a four-year term.
